Itinerary
Day 1 – Savannah, GA – This trip begins in historic Savannah, GA. It features two nights first class suburban lodging, which could easily be upgraded to a Historic District hotel (extra cost). Dinner this night is a cruise on the River Queen, your chance to enjoy a nice meal and unique view of this beautiful waterfront. (D)
Day 2 – Guided Tour – Mercer Williams House – Pirate House – Today begins with narrated sightseeing. Moss-draped and molasses-sweet Savannah is like Charleston and other Southern port towns, forever linked to their past. You will learn of this city’s history on tour this morning. But, no trip to Savannah is complete without a trip down world-famous River Street. Lined with shops and restaurants on one side and bordered by the Savannah River on the other.
Next tour the Mercer Williams House Museum. Built in 1871, this house is one of the most beautiful homes in Savannah and also one of the most famous. It was featured in both the book and the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.
Dinner tonight is at the Pirate House. Since 1753, The Pirate’s House has been welcoming visitors to Savannah with a bounty of delicious food and drink and rousing good times. Situated a scant block from the Savannah River, The Pirate’s House first opened as an inn for seafarers, and fast became a rendezvous for blood-thirsty pirates and sailors from the Seven Seas. Here seamen drank their grog and discoursed, sailor fashion, on their exotic high seas adventures from Singapore to Bombay and from London to Port Said. (B,D)
Day 3 – Charleston – Horse-Drawn Carriage Tour – Fort Sumter – This morning your group will travel to Charleston, SC. Relax and enjoy the scenery as you travel through the Carolina Low Country.
The first event in Charleston is your Horse Drawn Carriage tour of the historic district. Your guide will be dressed in a Confederate uniform will inform and entertain you with historical facts, lore, and humor about this 300 year old city.
Next, shopping and Lunch on own at Old City Market. A must to see, there are a total of four buildings spanning from Meeting Street to East Bay Street. An assortment of wares is sold by hundreds of vendors. You will find local artists, jewelry, tapestry, souvenirs, church dolls, afghans, rugs, rice, beans and sauces, local candies and cookies and much more.
This afternoon you enjoy a boat ride to Fort Sumter Tour, the island fort where the Civil War began. Historians will provide detailed information about the fort and its pivotal role in the War between the States. There is a museum with fascinating exhibits and a small gift shop for your enjoyment.
Your farewell dinner this evening is at the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co or another popular restaurant. Overnight at a First Class Suburban Hotel. (B,D)
Day 4 – Depart – This morning you depart for home. Unless you want to discuss adding a second night in Charleston and visiting plantations, gardens and other sites. (B)
