Day 2 – Full Day Guided Touring – Walton’s 5 & Dime – Tyson Foods – This morning, meet your local guide for a full day of touring. Start with a visit to the Walton’s 5 & Dime, this original store was the start of Sam Walton’s Wal-Mart empire, circa 1945. While maintaining its authentic facade, its interior has been transformed from small town store to the Wal-Mart Visitor Center, with a blue vested greeter at the front door, Wal-Mart souvenirs, and trade show like displays depicting the Wal-Mart history.
Next you see the Tyson Food Poultry Exhibit at the Shiloh Museum of Ozark History in Springdale, AR. The Shiloh Museum takes its name from the pioneer community of Shiloh which became Springdale in the 1870s. The grounds feature six historic buildings, shaded walking paths, and picnic tables. In addition to regional exhibits focusing on the history of the Ozark people, the museum houses a research library with over 700,000 photographs. You will also drive the home of J.B. Hunt Trucking and see where the trucking industry began here in NW Arkansas.
