Itinerary
Day 1 – Schulyer Mansion – Albany, NY
This morning you begin your journey to Vermont. First stop today is the Schuyler Mansion, home to Philip J. Schuyler, the renowned Revolutionary War general, US Senator, and business entrepreneur. The Georgian structure, reflecting Schuyler’s English tastes – was built on a bluff overlooking the Hudson River. The wedding of daughter Elizabeth Schuyler to Alexander Hamilton took place in the house in 1780.
Continue travel to Albany, NY and a night at the Hampton Inn. Dinner is included at a local restaurant. (D)
Day 2 – Lunch at the Waybury Inn – Dakin Farm – South Burlington, VT
This morning you continue your trek to Vermont. The holiday season is such a special time in the Green Mountains, snowcapped mountains, glistening white fields, the aroma of crackling fires across the Valley and the countryside adorned with beautiful Holiday decorations – it’s truly a unique Currier & Ives experience unlike any other.
Mid-day, arrive at the Waybury Inn for an included lunch. Built in 1810 as a Stagecoach stop, it became more popularly known from the television series, “The Bob Newhart Show.”
After lunch, enjoy free time for holiday shopping at Middlebury’s Exchange Street District. Visit the Vermont Soap Company, Maple Landmark Woodcraft and Danforth Pewter and enjoy watching demonstrations from craftsmen.
Finish off the afternoon with a visit to Dakin Farm for wonderful samples of many Vermont specialties! Then check into the Holiday Inn Express South Burlington for a two night stay. Take some time to settle in before enjoying dinner at a local restaurant. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Visit to Vermont Maple Farm – Trapp Family Lodge – Church Street Marketplace
Enjoy breakfast before setting out for a fun-filled festive day! Begin with a visit to one of Vermont’s traditional Maple Farms for a demonstration and tasting of syrups.
Next, visit the famous Trapp Family Lodge for a festive holiday luncheon. The Trappe Family Lodge is a little of Austria…a lot of Vermont! Situated on 2,500 acres in beautiful Stowe, Vermont, the Trappe Family Lodge is a unique mountain resort featuring Austrian-inspired architecture and European-style accommodations. The Lodge also offers stunning mountain views.
This afternoon, visit the Vermont Annex to shop at a variety of Vermont’s Specialties: Cabot Creamery, Lake Champlain Chocolates, Danforth Pewter, Smuggler’s Notch Distillery Tasting Room and others.
End the afternoon with free time for Christmas shopping at Church Street Marketplace. Find the perfect gift for everyone on your list at one of the local boutiques and national brands in downtown Burlington. For clothing, shoes, home goods, outdoor equipment, jewelry and more. Return to the hotel to freshen up or relax before dinner at the local restaurant. (B,L,D)
Day 4 – Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride or Wagon Ride – Woodstock’s Wassail or Christmas in Weston
This morning enjoy a Horse Drawn Sleigh Ride (or wagon ride) taking you back in time as you wind along wooded trails and across open fields, with the fresh scent of pines, feeling the runners glide and hearing the sleigh bells ringing softly. An old-fashioned New England winter experience not to be forgotten!
Depending on date, groups may be able to at either Woodstock’s Wassail or Christmas in Weston.
The 2nd Weekend of December is Woodstock’s Wassail Weekend. Where you may witness the parade featuring over fifty horses and riders dressed in holiday costumes from the early 19th Century. Troupes of singers parade the streets as well while you browse through the fascinating shops and boutiques. Prices are a bit higher at his time.
Or groups may be able to add at stop in Weston, VT for the annual “Christmas in Weston” a day-long event celebrating traditional holiday nostalgia taking place usually on the first Saturday of December. The event celebrates traditional holiday nostalgia throughout the scenic village with many wonderful holiday-themed experiences and activities. Yankee Magazine features this as a magical holiday experience not to be missed!
Lodging would be included tonight at an appropriately located enroute hotel with dinner at local restaurant. (B,D)
