Itinerary

Day 1 – Callaway Gardens – Fireworks Show & Balloon Glow – Today, you travel to Pine Mountain, GA. Check into the Mountain Creek Inn at Callaway Gardens for a two night stay.  Callaway Gardens is an award-winning, 2,500-acre gardens and resort nestled in the southernmost foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. In addition to four types of accommodations, twelve restaurants and plenty of shopping, there is a lot to see and do at this family-friendly getaway.

Tonight, enjoy dinner at the hotel’s Plant Room Restaurant. Following dinner, the magic begins with the extraordinary Friday Night Balloon Glow, where dozens of balloons illuminate the night at the Hot Air Balloon Festival.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival is a festive, old-fashioned weekend is highlighted by the extraordinary vision of a Balloon Glow. Some of the other attractions include: Tethered balloon rides, evening balloon glows, live music and performances, food and drink specials, beach activities, classic car show, and disc dog demonstrations. End the evening with a Fireworks Show. (D)

Day 2 – Callaway Gardens – Warm Springs – FDR – This morning, enjoy a tour of world famous Callaway Gardens.  You will see the Ida Cason Callaway Memorial Chapel, the Cecil B. Day Butterfly Center, Callaway Brothers Azalea Bowl, a 40-acre garden featuring 900 native azaleas and 4000 cultivated azaleas representing over 100 varieties and much more.

Then enjoy an afternoon tour in Warm Springs including FDR’s Little White House.  Roosevelt was so enchanted with Warm Springs that he built the only home he ever owned here. It is a modest, six room cottage called the Little White House which served as a relaxing, comfortable haven for him during his regular visits to Warm Springs, GA. It was here he is believed to have developed his New Deal policies that would affect the entire nation, here where he relaxed and socialized and here where he died on April 12, 1945 while posing for the “Unfinished Portrait.”

Returning to Callaway Gardens, a tethered balloon ride is included for everyone. (weather conditions permitting). Enjoy an Italian Buffet Dinner tonight in the Plant Room Restaurant. (B,D)
