Itinerary

Day 1 – Biloxi, MS – Casino Lodging

Arrive today in the Coastal Mississippi town of Biloxi.  Try to plan to arrive in the afternoon to take advantage of the stunning beaches.  Here you enjoy a three-night stay at one of the casino hotels.  Enjoy dinner at the hotel and a free evening for gaming. (D)

Day 2 – Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum – Biloxi Shrimping Trip – Shrimp Boil Lunch – Guided Biloxi Tour with Beauvoir Mansion 

This morning, start with a tour of the Maritime & Seafood Industry Museum.  Experience an array of exhibits on shrimping, oystering, recreation fishing, wetlands, managing marine resources, charter boats, marine blacksmithing, wooden boat building, net making, catboats/Biloxi skiff, shrimp peeling machine and numerous historic photographs and objects.

Next, take a Biloxi Shrimping Trip – a 70-minute living marine adventure cruise. This unique and historical cruise will take you along the protected waters of the Gulf’s shoreline and show you all the creatures, including shrimp, which inhabit the coastal waters.

Then enjoy a Shrimp Boil buffet lunch including boiled shrimp, corn, potatoes, Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya, salad, dessert, and tea.

This afternoon, meet your local guide for a Biloxi City Tour. This scenic beachfront town lies directly on the Mississippi Sound with Barrier Islands scattered off the coast.  You will see such sights as Biloxi Lighthouse (1847) that has been managed by female lighthouse keepers longer than any other light in America.  Your guide will discuss the 300+ years of history, point out the public art, and tell you of the devastation of Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

You also stop at the Biloxi Visitor’s Center Museum, in the shadow of the Biloxi Light. It fuses the city’s architectural heritage with multi-media exhibits and gives you a feel for the Biloxi of yesterday as well as today.

Also included is a visit to Beauvoir, the home of the Confederacy’s President Jefferson Davis. This includes a tour of the Beauvoir Mansion, Confederate Cemetery and a stroll through the beautiful Gardens.  You will also have the opportunity to visit his Presidential Library and sit with coffee and beignets on the front porch of the Mansion.

Tonight, enjoy dinner at Mary Mahoney’s.  Enjoy an upscale and elegant meal in one of the South’s most unique restaurants, centered around one of the oldest homes in America. Dine in an elegant New Orleans style courtyard under the canopy of a centuries old live oak, where for 50 years, presidents, dignitaries, celebrities, and millions of others have experienced the rich history and legendary cuisine of Mary Mahoney’s. Day 3 – Gulfport, MS – Mississippi Aquarium w/boxed lunch – Ferry to Ship Island/Fort Massachusetts – Walter Anderson Museum of Art

This morning, head to nearby Gulfport, MS for a visit to the Mississippi Aquarium. The Mississippi Aquarium tells the incredible story of all of Mississippi’s aquatic resources from tranquil rivers that flow into the roaring waters of the mighty Mississippi and on to the Gulf of Mexico and the remarkable connection that ties them all uniquely together. Nestled on a 5.8 acre campus featuring over 300 animal species in 12 habitats, Mississippi Aquarium is an indoor and outdoor experience featuring North American river otters, Atlantic bottlenose dolphins, native freshwater river fish and a variety of sharks and African penguins and many more amazing animals!  A boxed lunch will be included today with your visit.

Next, board the Ferry to Ship Island/Fort Massachusetts for a National Park Service guided tour.  Come learn about the Louisiana Native Guard African American Troops and The Civil War on Ship Island. In Summer following the tour, you can walk to the south side of the Island and relax under beach chairs and umbrellas.  If you are lucky, you might even spot dolphins while crossing the Mississippi Sound on the 1-hour boat ride.

Returning to Biloxi this afternoon, visit the Walter Anderson Museum of Art. The Anderson family is still alive and well in Ocean Springs — enjoy the murals and outdoor art inspired by this family. WAMA is dedicated to the celebration of the works of Walter Inglis Anderson (1903-1965), American master, whose depictions of the plants, animals, and people of the Gulf Coast have placed him among the forefront of American painters of the Twentieth Century.

Dinner is included this evening at McElroy’s Harbor House, a Family Owned and Operated Seafood Restaurant open since 1974. Enjoy laid-back dining and unimpeded views of Deer Island and the Mississippi Sound. (B,L,D)
