Itinerary
Day 1 – Thomasville, GA – Free Evening in Downtown Thomasville
Arrive today in Thomasville, GA. Check into your hotel for a two-night stay. Tonight, enjoy a free evening and dinner on your own in Downtown Thomasville. Over 100 eclectic boutiques, antique shops, and cafes are nestled among the historic buildings of Downtown Thomasville. Well known for its character, charm and hospitality, Thomasville was an early recipient of the prestigious Great American Main Street Award. Stroll the bricks to see why! Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the locally owned and operated restaurants or cafes.
Day 2 – Taste of Thomasville Food Tour – Thomasville Rose Garden – The Big Oak – Farmer’s Daughter Vineyards Wine Tasting
Enjoy a leisurely morning before a Taste of Thomasville Food Tour. This three-hour progressive lunch tour through downtown Thomasville starts in the courtyard of The Visitors Center. Your tour guide will lead you on a walk to award-winning food establishments in the downtown area. Between the food establishments, the participants learn the history, culture and stories that make Thomasville a unique town. Sample foods such as shrimp and grits, organic coffee, Greek salad, pizza made from local fresh organic vegetables and meats, award-winning cheeses and sweet treats. (This tour will be done round robin style where the group is divided up into smaller groups starting a one location and then moving on to the next every 20 minutes or so. The tour can accommodate up to 48 passengers.)
The afternoon will also include a visit to the Thomasville Rose Garden. Thomasville, Georgia’s Official Rose City, has a long rosarian history, which is quite evident at the Thomasville Rose Garden. The City of Thomasville maintains a stunning variety of over 1,500 rose bushes that are in full bloom from April – July. You’ll find charming gazebos to relax and take in the dazzling sight and sweet aroma of Thomasville’s favorite flower. (Every April, Thomasville hosts an Annual Rose Show and Festival.)
You will also stop at Thomasville’s oldest and most cherished natural landmark, The Big Oak. This massive Southern Live Oak grew from a tiny acorn beginning around 1685 and is one of the original members of the Live Oak Society. Now over 337 years old, it has a limb span of over 165 feet and a trunk circumference of over 26 feet! President Eisenhower was so impressed with the Big Oak that he personally photographed it during one of his frequent visits to Thomasville.
Also included this afternoon is a wine tasting at Farmer’s Daughter Vineyards downtown Thomasville location. Dinner is included this evening at a local restaurant. (B,L,D)
Day 3 – Pebble Hill Plantation – Depart for Home
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the Pebble Hill Plantation and explore Southern hospitality on a grand scale. Tour the magnificent neo-classical home (built in1936) and the breathtaking grounds. Enjoy the natural beauty of the Southern landscape, elegant interiors and antique furniture, a world-class sporting art collection, and delightful early 20th century gardens.
The plantation, which covers 3,000 acres and dates to 1826, changed from working farm to shooting plantation in 1896 when it was purchased by Cleveland industrialist Howard Melville Hanna. This stately architectural beauty stands proudly amid the magnolias and long leaf pines of southwest Georgia, and like an alluring belle, it has magnetic appeal and breathtaking beauty.
