U. S. Highway 61, known as the “Blues Highway,” rivals Route 66 as the most famous road in American music lore. Dozens of blues artists have recorded songs about Highway 61, including Mississippians Sunnyland Slim, James “Son” Thomas, “Honeyboy” Edwards, Big Joe Williams, Joe McCoy, Charlie Musselwhite, Eddie Shaw, Johnny Young, Eddie Burns, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. Bubba Gump Country
Can you believe it’s been 30 years since Forrest Gump sat on that bench and told us “life is like a box of chocolates?” It was in July 1994, that this slow, but sweet character played by Tom Hanks entered theaters—and our hearts. We thought today, “for no particular reason” that we could celebrate and remember the simple life of Forrest, while touring movie sites, while eating shrimp, and while discovering the Southern beauty of Savannah and Beaufort – two towns that “goes together like peas and carrots.”
Louisiana’s “No Man’s Land”
In Western Louisiana, “No Man’s Land” was the neutral strip between the United States and Spanish territories following the Louisiana Purchase. The region had no King or Country, it was home to outlaws, bandits, pirates and pioneers. The settlers were larger than life, and so are the stories!
